You are about to join a Paragliding Tandem flight above Crete. Are your palms already
sweaty at the thought of jumping off a mountain? Maybe you’re wondering if you’ve made
right decision for your holidays…
Calm down, relax! We are here to assure you that is going to be the best thing that you’ll do
while in Crete. The feedback we get most often is “much easier and more enjoyable than
expected”. To get you ready for the flight, we want to give you a clear idea of what you can
expect from now until you land.
1. CONFIRMATION EMAIL
Check your inbox, you should have received a confirmation email about paragliding in Crete.
If it hasn’t come through, please get in touch so we can sort it out!
2. MEETING POINT
We have 3 meeting points, depending the spot for paragliding over Chania. Here you will
meet your pilot, his assistant and the ground staff. Don’t worry if you feel anxious, your
pilot is more than confident and relaxed enough for both of you. And if you’re wondering
about the big smile on his face – it’s because he can’t wait to fly with you.
3. ON THE WAY TO TAKE OFF
The drive to take-off area lasts 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the spot. The view while
driving up is beautiful. The most stunning road though is on the way to Chania-Varipetro
take off.
We’ll drive through a beautiful green gorge, and the last few kilometers to take-off is off-
road driving, where we’ll see goats and sheep everywhere.
4. TAKE OFF PROCEDURE
Once we arrive at the take-off area, you’ll have some time to enjoy the breathtaking view.
Maybe at this point you’ll start feeling a bit nervous, but there’s no reason to.
Meanwhile, your pilot will get the glider ready as well as constantly checking the current
weather conditions. You will watch him unfold the glider and deal with hundreds of lines. It
looks really complicated and confusing, but for him it is a routine procedure that he’s done
hundreds of times.
Now it’s time to put on your harness and helmet and gear up. While the pilot is getting you
ready, he will tell you few things you need to know about what to do and what you will feel
to make your transition in the air easier.
As the passenger, you will go in front, connected with the pilot who controls the glider. The
pilot will inflate the glider, and the only thing you need to do is to run few steps forward,
usually 3 to 4, and you’re off!
5. IN THE AIR
There are no words to describe the feeling! And even if there were, we wouldn’t want to
spoil your experience – paragliding over Chania is a once in a lifetime experience.
6. LANDING PROCEDURE
When you are close to the ground, you and your pilot step down softly and do few steps
forward as you come into contact with the ground. In rare cases there may be a bit more
speed due to weather conditions. If this is the case, you may experience a bum landing 🙂
